This course offers students a structured and dependable approach to painting a portrait from life, guiding them through each stage of the process—from initial sketch to final brushstroke. We’ll begin with a focus on drawing, emphasizing proportion and achieving a strong likeness. Students will then develop a three-dimensional form using a generalized flesh tone as a base. Color will be introduced gradually, culminating in instruction on how to bring a painting to a refined finish.
Throughout the course, students will complete two portrait paintings and gain a deeper understanding of the sequential principles that guide the development of a successful portrait. The instructor will provide demonstrations, paint alongside the class, and offer personalized feedback and guidance at the easel.
