Portrait Painting Workshop 5 days Albuquerque New Mexico

NEW MEXICO ART LEAGUE

Public demonstration day before workshop, Sunday March 6, 2016.

Students will spend four out of five days working on a long pose portrait painting with one day devoted to color studies.

Every morning from 9-10:30am the instructor will demonstrate in order to lead students with what to work on for the day. 1st day students will work in brown paint in order to work out the proportions of the head along the lines of classical drawing methods. The 2nd day students will add flesh tones to begin developing values, planes and form. Some basic anatomy will be discussed. The 3rd day we will take a break from the long pose to do multiple color studies, including one of our long pose set-up. A basic color theory will be explained. The 4th day students will continue painting the long pose by establishing the color block in and beginning to develop some parts further. The 5th day students will practice developing further and finishing some parts of the portrait, generally as they relate to the focal points and features.
